Fernando Suárez Paz, affectionately known as "El Negro" Suárez Paz, was an Argentine violinist and conductor renowned for his virtuosic talent and versatility. Born in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires, Suárez Paz began his musical journey at a young age, eventually joining the esteemed ranks of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires. His career is marked by a deep connection to the tango tradition, inspired by the likes of Elvino Vardaro and Enrique Francini, while also showcasing his mastery of classical music. Suárez Paz is perhaps best known for his collaboration with the legendary Astor Piazzolla, spanning over a decade and resulting in the creation of the distinctive Nuevo Tango sound. As the most recorded Argentine violinist, his work with Piazzolla and his own Quinteto Suárez Paz has left an indelible mark on the world of tango. His performances are celebrated for their "delicious clarity and passion," making him a beloved figure in the music world until his passing in 2020.
