Capella Istropolitana, founded in 1983, is a distinguished Slovak chamber orchestra based in the historic city of Bratislava. Deriving its name from the ancient Greek moniker for Bratislava, Istropolis, the orchestra was initially formed by members of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. Capella Istropolitana has since grown from a small chamber ensemble to a full-fledged orchestra capable of performing the standard classical repertoire. In 1991, the Bratislava City Council honored the orchestra by appointing it as the Chamber Orchestra of the City of Bratislava.
