About Kenny Barron
Kenny Barron, born in Philadelphia in 1943, is a jazz pianist and composer celebrated for his virtuosic performances and compositions. With a career spanning over six decades, Barron has established himself as one of the most influential mainstream jazz pianists since the bebop era. He began his musical journey at the age of 12 and quickly rose through the ranks, performing with legendary artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, and Yusef Lateef. Barron's discography is vast, featuring numerous albums as both a leader and sideman, and he has been honored with multiple awards, including six Best Pianist awards from the Jazz Journalists Association and the title of NEA Jazz Master. His music spans various formats, from solo and duo performances to quartets and quintets, but he is particularly known for his consistent trio with bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Johnathan Blake.
