Boughton's compositions span a wide range of genres, including symphonies, concertos, part-songs, and chamber music, but it is his operas, or "music dramas" as he preferred to call them, that have left a lasting legacy. His most famous work, "The Immortal Hour," enjoyed record-breaking runs in London during the 1920s and 1930s, making him as renowned as contemporaries like Elgar, Holst, and Vaughan Williams.
