Released on ECM Records, this 43-minute album comprises 16 vignettes, each averaging around two and a half minutes, that organically evolve with dreamy broken chords and intricate soundscapes. Balke, known for his unique solo work, integrates processed material into his resonant piano music, creating "distorted reflections and reverberations from the world," as he describes it. Recorded in December 2019 at Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano, "Discourses" builds upon the methodology introduced in Balke's previous album, "Warp," further cementing his innovative approach to contemporary jazz. The album's immersive soundscapes and thoughtful compositions make it a standout addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection.
