Alessandro Cicognini, born in Pescara in 1906, was a prolific and influential Italian composer renowned for his evocative film scores. Graduating from the Milan Conservatory in 1927, Cicognini's classical training laid the foundation for his illustrious career in cinema. He is particularly celebrated for his collaborations with Vittorio De Sica, Italy's most successful postwar filmmaker, for whom he composed scores for over two decades, including the iconic "Bicycle Thieves" and "Umberto D." Cicognini's work is deeply rooted in the neorealist movement, capturing the essence of post-war Italy with his emotive and memorable compositions. His contributions to film music have left an indelible mark on Italian cinema, making him a pivotal figure in the golden age of Italian film scores.
