Ivo Perelman is a Brazilian free jazz saxophonist renowned for his prolific output and collaborative spirit. Born in São Paulo in 1961, Perelman began his musical journey as a classical guitar prodigy before transitioning to the saxophone in his teens. With over 125 albums to his name, he is on track to become one of the most recorded figures in jazz history. Perelman's playing is characterized by a smoky, sensual tone and a versatility that spans slow, descending lines to fierce attacks in the upper register. He has worked with virtually every notable figure in the free jazz world, including the seminal Matthew Shipp String Trio, making him a cornerstone of the avant-garde jazz scene.
