Giancarlo Schiaffini is a pioneering Italian trombonist and tubist, renowned for his contributions to avant-garde music, free improvisation, and free jazz. His career took off in the 1960s when he became a key figure in Italy's early free jazz scene. Schiaffini's collaborations are legendary, having worked with icons like Mario Schiano, Lol Coxhill, Andrea Centazzo, and even Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. He was also a member of the influential Gruppo di Improvvisazione di Nuova Consonanza and the Italian Instabile Orchestra.
