Friedrich Theodor Fröhlich, born in 1803 in Brugg, Switzerland, is celebrated as the most significant Swiss composer of the early Romantic era. Despite facing personal and financial struggles, Fröhlich's prolific output of over 700 compositions, primarily for piano and choir, has earned him a posthumous reputation as a master of his craft. His musical journey began at a young age, and after studying law in Basel and Berlin, he dedicated himself to music, studying composition under notable figures like Zelter and B. Klein. Fröhlich's works, which include overtures, piano fantasias, and choral pieces, are now experiencing a well-deserved resurgence, highlighting his unique contributions to the Romantic period. Tragically, his life was cut short when he took his own life in 1836 at the age of 33. Today, Fröhlich's music continues to captivate audiences, offering a poignant glimpse into the early Romantic era through his expressive and innovative compositions.
