About Ahmad Jamal
Ahmad Jamal, the legendary jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader, left an indelible mark on the music world with his unique and influential style. Born on February 2, 1930, Jamal's career spanned over six decades, making him one of the most successful small-group leaders in jazz history. His signature tune, "Poinciana," and his classic album "At the Pershing: But Not for Me" are testaments to his enduring impact. Jamal's measured, spare piano style inspired generations of musicians, including his lifelong friend Miles Davis. A convert to Islam, Jamal was also an educator and a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Grammy for his contributions to music history. His passing on April 16, 2023, at the age of 92, marked the end of an era, but his music continues to resonate with fans and inspire new artists.
