About Ian Bousfield

Ian Bousfield is a renowned British trombonist, conductor, and educator, celebrated for his versatility and mastery in the music world. Born in York, England, Bousfield began his musical journey at the age of seven, initially taught by his father. His career has spanned over three decades, during which he has held prestigious positions as Principal Trombone with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Hallé Orchestra. In 2000, he made history as the first and only British member to join the Vienna Philharmonic/Vienna State Opera.

Beyond his orchestral achievements, Ian Bousfield is also a dedicated pedagogue, serving as a professor of trombone at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern and the Royal Academy of Music in London. His influence extends globally, with former students holding positions in some of the world's top orchestras and winning major competitions.
