Jack McDuff, born Eugene McDuffy, was a titan of the Hammond B-3 organ, renowned for his soulful and funky style that defined the hard bop and soul jazz scenes of the 1960s. Known professionally as "Brother" or "Captain" Jack McDuff, he led a prolific career as both a bandleader and a virtuoso organist, releasing over fifty albums across esteemed labels like Prestige and Blue Note. McDuff's dynamic performances with his organ trio were electrifying, often featuring legendary musicians like guitarist George Benson, whom McDuff notably gave his first big break. His discography, including classics like "The Honey Dripper" and "Moon Rappin," showcases his mastery of the Hammond B-3, blending jazz with funk and soul to create an unforgettable sonic experience.
