About Arne Domnérus
Arne Domnérus, born in Stockholm in 1924, was a pioneering figure in European jazz, renowned for his mastery of the alto saxophone and clarinet. Domnérus began his musical journey at the age of 11, switching to the saxophone by the time he left school and turning professional soon after. His breakthrough came at the Paris Jazz Festival in 1949, and he went on to collaborate with legendary jazz artists such as Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, and James Moody. Throughout his career, Domnérus was a leading figure in Scandinavian jazz, known for his work with the Swedish Radio Big Band and his own ensembles, including the Arne Domnérus Sextet. His discography spans a wide range of genres, from traditional jazz to Swedish ballads, showcasing his versatility and enduring influence on the jazz scene. Domnérus passed away in Stockholm in 2008, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire.
