Johann David Heinichen, born in the small village of Krossuln, Saxony-Anhalt, on April 17, 1683, was a prominent German composer and music theorist whose career flourished during the Baroque era. A contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinichen was a key figure in the vibrant musical scene of the Dresden court in the 1720s and 1730s. His musical education blossomed in Italy, much like that of his fellow Saxon, George Frideric Handel.
