Born in 1953 in the quaint village of Churt, near Farnham, Surrey, Rutherford's musical journey began at the age of five with piano lessons, igniting a lifelong passion for composition. His classical works, such as 'Hum, The', 'The Killing of the Dragon, The', and 'Requiescat', reflect his deep commitment to the art form. Beyond his musical pursuits, Rutherford is renowned for his academic contributions, having served as a Professor of Cultural Studies at Middlesex University and as the editor of the influential journal Soundings. His intellectual prowess extends to political thought, where he is recognised as a leading thinker within the Blue Labour movement.
