Judith Bingham, born in Nottingham in 1952, is a distinguished English composer and mezzo-soprano singer whose musical journey began in childhood. She honed her skills at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied both composition and singing, and was awarded the Principal's Prize in 1971. Bingham's career took a significant turn when she joined the BBC Singers from 1983 to 1995, allowing her to explore the intricacies of choral music from within. Her compositions, marked by uncompromising integrity and a questing spirit, span a prolific catalogue of choral, vocal, church, and organ music. Bingham's contributions to music were recognized with the 1977 BBC Young Composer Award and, more recently, an appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2020. A Fellow of the Royal Northern College of Music, Bingham continues to inspire with her resourceful and innovative approach to composition.
