About Édouard Lalo
Édouard Lalo, born in Lille in 1823, was a pioneering French composer, violinist, and violist whose music continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Defying his father's wishes at the age of 16, Lalo embarked on a musical journey that would see him become one of the most ingenious composers of the late Romantic era. His most celebrated work, the "Symphonie Espagnole," is a vibrant and technically demanding concerto for violin and orchestra that has become a staple in the classical repertoire. Despite his prolific output, Lalo's only opera to be performed in his lifetime was "Le Roi d'Ys," a dramatic work based on the Breton legend of the drowned city of Ys. Lalo's music, characterized by its Spanish influences and lyrical melodies, offers a unique and engaging experience for both casual listeners and seasoned classical enthusiasts.
