Martine Geliot, a prodigious French harpist, was born into a family steeped in musical tradition. Her mother, Huguette Geliot, was a distinguished harpist herself, and her great-grandmother was the renowned composer Mel Bonis. Geliot's extraordinary talent was evident from a young age, earning her a first prize at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris at just 14 years old. Her career flourished as she won numerous international competitions, including the Third International Harp Contest in Israel in 1965. Geliot's performances as a recitalist and soloist with orchestras around the world showcased her virtuosity and artistic depth. Tragically, her life was cut short in 1988 at the age of 39, but her legacy endures through the Concours International de Harpe Martine Geliot "Jeunes Talents," established in her memory by her mother, Huguette. This competition continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of harpists, keeping Martine Geliot's musical spirit alive.
