Prem Ki Gopanetey Roy

Ramkumar Chatterjee, born in 1921 in North Kolkata, was a revered figure in the world of Bengali classical music. Hailing from a family with a rich musical background, Chatterjee began his musical journey under the guidance of his grandfather, a classical singer, and later studied under the renowned Jatin Chatterjee of the Bishnupur gharana. Known as the 'last emperor' of Bangla Puratoni Gaan, Ramkumar Chatterjee was instrumental in reviving the legacy of the iconic Nidhubabu, preserving the traditional songs of Bengal.

Chatterjee was one of the greatest exponents of Bengali Tappa, Puratoni Bangla Gaan, and Bangla Baithaki Gaan, genres that showcase the lyrical richness and cultural depth of Bengali music. His powerful vocals and deep understanding of classical music made him a beloved figure among music enthusiasts. Chatterjee's contributions to Bengali music are immense, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians. His son, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, also a singer, carries forward his father's musical heritage.
