Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis Jr. was a legendary American jazz pianist, composer, and radio personality, born in Chicago, Illinois. With a career spanning over five decades, Lewis became an iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement, known for his unique blend of jazz, funk, and soul influences. He began playing piano at the age of four and went on to record over 80 albums, earning five gold records and three Grammy Awards, including the 1965 Grammy for Best Jazz Performance for his critically acclaimed album "The In Crowd." Some of his most beloved singles include "The 'In' Crowd," "Wade in the Water," and "Sun Goddess." Until 2009, Lewis was also a beloved radio host, sharing his passion for music with his audience on the Ramsey Lewis Morning Show on WNUA in Chicago.
