Album Description
Ozric Tentacles' ninth studio album, The Hidden Step, marks a pivotal moment in the band's discography. Released in 2000 on Snapper Music, this 49-minute, seven-track masterpiece showcases the band's unique blend of space rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, krautrock, and acid rock. The album features the talented lineup of Ed Wynne on guitar and keyboards, John Egan on flute and vocals, Zia Geelani on bass, and "Rad" (Conrad Prince) on drums.
The Hidden Step is notable for being the last full-length album to feature the explosive drumming of "Rad" and the bass work of Zia Geelani, except for a guest appearance on the track "Oakum" on their later album Spirals in Hyperspace. This lineup, which had been together since 1995's Become the Other, had produced some of Ozric Tentacles' most iconic albums, including Curious Corn and Waterfall Cities.
The album's cover art, designed by Ed Wynne, features his cat Pixel, adding a personal touch to the release. The tracklist, comprising Holohedron, The Hidden Step, Ashlandi Bol, Aramanu, Pixel Dream, Tight Spin, and Ta Khut, takes listeners on a sonic journey through the band's signature soundscapes.
As one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK's festival scene, Ozric Tentacles has built a loyal following with their uniquely trippy sound, which connects fans of progressive rock, psychedelia, and dance music culture. The Hidden Step is a testament to the band's creative vision and their ability to craft immersive, instrumental soundscapes that continue to inspire and captivate audiences. With its release on 1 January 2000, The Hidden Step remains a standout album in Ozric Tentacles' discography, showcasing the band's innovative spirit and musical prowess.
