Born in New York City in 1955, Horvitz rose to prominence in the vibrant Downtown scene of the 1980s and '90s, collaborating with legendary artists such as John Zorn and Bill Frisell. His work is characterized by a unique appreciation of rhythm and dynamic tension, creating a diverse range of textures that span from avant-classical to folksy charm, and from intimate small-group settings to large-ensemble performances.
