Alan Bern

Born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1955, Bern has been based in Berlin since 1987, where he has become a leading figure in the avant-garde and klezmer music scenes. As the musical director of Brave Old World, Bern has been instrumental in the revival and teaching of traditional and contemporary Yiddish music. His work spans composition, arrangement, and performance, and he is also known for his cultural activism and philosophical insights. Bern has been honored with the Thuringia Order of Merit and has organized the renowned Yiddish Summer Weimar. His contributions to music and culture continue to inspire and engage audiences worldwide.
