Aloys Schmitt

Aloys Schmitt, a German composer, pianist, and music teacher, was a celebrated figure in the 19th century, admired by his peers and even by the legendary Franz Liszt. Born in Erlenbach am Main in 1788, Schmitt's musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Franz Bartholomäus Schmitt. He later moved to Frankfurt in 1816, where he continued to make significant contributions to the music world. Schmitt was not just a virtuoso composer and pianist but also a renowned pedagogue, known for his preparatory exercises designed to enhance strength, agility, and independence in pianists. Despite his respect among contemporaries, Schmitt's legacy has somewhat faded into obscurity. His work, however, remains a testament to his enduring influence on the world of classical music.
