Bachir Attar

Bachir Attar, born in 1964, is a Moroccan musician and the charismatic leader of The Master Musicians of Jajouka, a group renowned for its rich cultural heritage and mystical musical traditions. As the son of the late Hadj Abdesalam Attar, Bachir has carried on his family's legacy, leading the group since the early 1980s. Under his guidance, the Master Musicians of Jajouka have blended ancient rituals with contemporary influences, captivating audiences worldwide with their trance-inducing, soul-freeing music. Bachir's journey began humbly as a shepherd boy in the village of Jajouka, but his life took a dramatic turn when he crossed paths with the legendary Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, who produced the group's debut album in 1968. Since then, Bachir and his ensemble have collaborated with an impressive array of artists, including Ornette Coleman, Patti Smith, and members of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their music, a complex and melodic fusion of ancient traditions and modern sounds, is not just an auditory experience but a spiritual journey that transcends boundaries and resonates deeply with those who seek the essence of Moroccan musical heritage.
