Exploding Star Orchestra

The Exploding Star Orchestra, led by trumpeter and composer Rob Mazurek, is a dynamic American jazz collective that has been pushing the boundaries of avant-garde and free jazz since its inception in 2005. Born out of a commission from the Chicago Cultural Center to represent the city's diverse avant-garde scene, the ensemble has evolved into a fluid, ever-changing group of around 15 members. Inspired by Mazurek's experiences in Rio Negro, Brazil, their music is a metallic, scrappy, and curious jazz opus that invites listeners into a world of psychedelic exploration. The orchestra's unique sound and Mazurek's innovative compositions have earned them critical acclaim, with performances like their 2023 show under the dome of Chicago's Adler Planetarium showcasing their ability to create immersive, otherworldly experiences.
