Giovanni Giorgi

Giovanni Giorgi is an Italian physicist and electrical engineer who has made significant contributions to the world of measurement systems. Born in Lucca on November 27, 1871, Giorgi's innovative work laid the groundwork for the International System of Units (SI) that we use today. His Giorgi system of measurement, proposed in 1901, was a pioneering effort to create a coherent system of units that included electrical measurements, adding an electrical unit to the existing mechanical units of meter, kilogram, and second. Giorgi's academic journey began at the Institute of Technology in Rome, where he studied civil engineering and later directed the Technology Office of Rome from 1906 to 1923. His legacy continues to influence the fields of physics and engineering, making him a key figure in the development of modern measurement standards.
