Hal Gaylor

Hal Gaylor, the Canadian bassist (1929-2015), was a versatile and accomplished musician who left an indelible mark on the jazz scene. Known for his collaborations with notable artists such as Eric Dolphy, Tony Bennett, and Chico Hamilton, Gaylor's work spanned decades and genres. His 1958 performance with Eric Dolphy and others is particularly celebrated, showcasing his skillful bass playing alongside Dolphy's innovative alto saxophone. Gaylor also formed the renowned trio with pianist Walter Norris and drummer Billy Bean, releasing the album "The Trio" under the Fresh Sound label. His contributions to jazz, both as a solo artist and a collaborator, highlight his enduring legacy in the world of music.
