Hein van de Geyn is a renowned Dutch jazz double bassist, composer, and bandleader, born into a musical family in Schijndel, Netherlands, in 1956. His musical journey began with 15 years of classical violin training, followed by a stint on electric bass guitar in local rock bands. Van de Geyn's love for jazz, inspired by his saxophonist father, led him to switch to double bass, a decision that launched his impressive career. He honed his skills at conservatories in Tilburg and Rotterdam, and has since performed with jazz legends such as Chet Baker and Lee Konitz. In addition to his performing career, van de Geyn is a dedicated educator, having co-founded the Challenge Jazz label and authoring the comprehensive "Comprehensive Bass Method," a seminal work for jazz double bass. His band, Baseline, showcases his talents as a composer and bandleader, offering a rich and engaging musical experience.
