Born in Llwynypia, Glamorgan on November 2, 1947, Tann's deep connection to her surroundings, from her childhood in the Rhondda Valley to her adult life near the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York, is evident in her work. She pursued her passion for music at the University of Wales, Cardiff, and Princeton University, studying under renowned composer Alun Hoddinott. Tann's impressive career included serving as the John Howard Payne Professor of Music Emerita at Union College, Schenectady.
