Johanna Senfter (1879-1961) was a prolific German classical composer born into a wealthy family, whose musical talents were recognized early in life. She studied at Frankfurt's Hoch Conservatory and went on to enrich nearly every genre of classical music, from intimate chamber pieces to grand symphonic works. Among her notable compositions are her two symphonies, a piano concerto, and a double violin concerto. Her Clarinet Quintet, composed in 1950, is particularly celebrated. Senfter's career saw its most productive period after she emerged from a self-imposed exile from public life. Her work, influenced by her studies with Max Reger, continues to captivate audiences and scholars alike, offering a rich exploration of early 20th-century German music.
