Joseph Horovitz

Joseph Horovitz, born in Vienna in 1926, was a British composer and conductor whose life and work spanned continents and decades. Fleeing to England with his family in 1938 to escape the rise of Nazism, Horovitz eventually settled and made a significant impact on the British music scene. After earning a music degree at New College, Oxford, he honed his craft under the tutelage of renowned composer Gordon Jacob. Horovitz's work, primarily in the spoken word genre, reflects his unique perspective as an émigré and his deep musical roots. His compositions, often characterized by their accessibility and wit, have left a lasting legacy in British music. Horovitz passed away in February 2022, leaving behind a rich body of work that continues to captivate audiences.
