Kanika Banerjee

Kanika Banerjee, also known as Kanika Bandopadhyay, was a renowned Bengali singer celebrated for her mastery of Rabindra Sangeet, the musical compositions of the legendary Rabindranath Tagore. Born in Sonamukhi, Bankura district, on October 12, 1924, Kanika's journey in music began at the prestigious Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan, where she honed her skills in both classical and Rabindra Sangeet at the Sangeet Bhavana. Her unique voice and emotional depth in interpreting Tagore's songs made her a standout performer. Kanika's career spanned continents, with performances across India, Europe, and America, and she was a frequent presence on All India Radio Kolkata.
