Karel Janovický

Karel Janovický (1930-2024) was a Czech-born composer who spent most of his life in London, leaving his homeland after the Communist takeover in 1948. Born in the west-Bohemian town of Pilsen, Janovický was immersed in music from an early age, with his father being a singer at the local opera. His compositions are diverse and numerous, with over two hundred works to his name. These include pieces such as "Quatre impromptus," a "Sonata for bass clarinet and piano," and a "String Quartet," showcasing his versatility and mastery across various genres. Despite his advanced years, Janovický's legacy continues to inspire, with his music being performed and celebrated by ensembles like the Pražák Quartet. His life and work reflect a rich tapestry of cultural heritage and artistic innovation.
