Louis Kentner

Louis Kentner, born in 1905 in Karwina, Silesia, was a virtuoso pianist whose career spanned two nations and numerous musical eras. Initially hailing from Austria-Hungary, Kentner later made Britain his home before the Second World War, becoming a naturalised British citizen. Renowned for his interpretations of Chopin and Liszt, Kentner's repertoire also deeply explored Hungarian music, reflecting his roots. His pioneering recordings, particularly of Liszt's works, are celebrated for their outstanding quality and have left an indelible mark on the musical canon. Kentner's contributions extended beyond performance; he was also a composer and author, penning works such as 'Piano,' a volume in the Yehudi Menuhin Music Guides series. His legacy includes premiering several works by Bartók and leaving behind a rich discography that continues to enchant classical music enthusiasts.
