Marc Albrecht is a distinguished German conductor renowned for his compelling interpretations of late-Romantic and contemporary music. Born in Hannover, Albrecht's career has been marked by his tenure as chief conductor of the Dutch National Opera, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 to 2020. Under his leadership, the Dutch National Opera was named “Opera House of the Year” in 2016. Albrecht's deep connection with the works of Wagner, Mahler, and Richard Strauss, as well as his advocacy for lesser-known composers like Zemlinsky and Schreker, has earned him international acclaim. He has conducted with prestigious orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Albrecht's artistic journey was significantly influenced by his mentorship under Claudio Abbado, with whom he worked closely to establish and lead the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. His recent appointment as the next chief conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra starting in the 2026–27 season further solidifies his standing as a leading figure in the classical music world. Albrecht's recordings, including those with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, are celebrated for their depth and clarity, reflecting his unique artistic vision.
