Masqualero

Masqualero, a Norwegian jazz quintet active from 1983 to 1991, left an indelible mark on the evolution of Nordic jazz. Originally known as "The Arild Andersen Quintet," the group renamed themselves in honor of a Wayne Shorter composition, reflecting their deep appreciation for jazz heritage. Comprising Arild Andersen, Jon Christensen, Jon Balke, Tore Brunborg, and Nils Petter Molvær, Masqualero became renowned as a 'Norwegian supergroup,' blending two generations of talented musicians. Their discography includes four albums, with three earning the prestigious Spellemannsprisen, Norway's equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Masqualero's music is celebrated for its innovative spirit and has influenced countless musicians, including pianist Tord Gustavsen, who cited their album "Bande À Part" as a life-changing experience. For jazz enthusiasts seeking a rich, immersive experience, Masqualero's albums are essential additions to any collection.
