Otto Olsson

Otto Olsson (1879-1964) was a Swedish composer whose works, though less known outside Scandinavia, offer a rich exploration of early 20th-century classical music. An ultra-conservative in his approach, Olsson's compositions are marked by a deep reverence for tradition and a mastery of form. His extensive works for organ, particularly from the years 1903-08 and 1912-41, showcase his impressive skill and dedication to the instrument. Notable pieces include his striking Sonata and the evocative "Six Pieces on Old Church Songs." Olsson's Requiem, conducted by Anders Ohrwall and the Stockholms Filharmoniska Orkester, is another standout work that highlights his ability to convey profound emotion through music. Despite withdrawing from composition as the 20th century progressed, Olsson's legacy endures through his meticulously crafted compositions, which continue to captivate and inspire.
