Pamela Thorby is a multi-talented artist who has seamlessly transitioned from a renowned career in music to a captivating journey in ceramics. As a former professor of recorder at the Royal Academy of Music in London and a member of the esteemed Palladian Ensemble, Pamela's musical prowess is unparalleled, with a discography that spans from medieval to contemporary music and has earned her numerous accolades, including seven Diapason D’Or awards. Her love for clay began during her travels as a touring musician, and since 2018, she has dedicated herself to creating unique wheel-thrown ceramics in her York studio and at Nunnington Pottery. Pamela's ceramic work is characterized by elegant and playful forms, with a focus on both sculptural and functional pieces in porcelain, earthenware, and stoneware. Her ceramics, much like her music, are a testament to her artistic versatility and her ability to connect her head, heart, and hands through her craft. Today, Pamela continues to inspire and educate through her pottery demonstrations and workshops, inviting others to explore the meditative and creative process of wheel-thrown ceramics.
