Philip Wilby

Philip Wilby, born in 1949 in Pontefract, is a distinguished British composer, organist, and choir director whose musical journey began at Leeds Grammar School and Keble College, Oxford. Under the mentorship of renowned composer Herbert Howells, Wilby's passion for composition was ignited, leading him to a prolific career in music. After a stint as a professional violinist, including a role in the National Youth Orchestra, he became a Professor of Composition at Leeds University. Wilby's work is celebrated for its depth and innovation, making him a notable figure in the world of contemporary classical music.
