Beginning his musical journey at the age of six with piano studies, he later became a laureate of the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. Under the tutelage of André Dumortier, Bartholomée honed his skills and began composing as early as 1951. His extensive career includes serving as the musical director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège from 1977 to 1999.
