Richard Bonynge

Richard Bonynge, born in Sydney, Australia, in 1930, is a celebrated conductor and pianist renowned for his significant contributions to the world of opera and classical music. His musical journey began with studies at the NSW Conservatorium of Music and the Royal College of Music in London, further honing his skills under the tutelage of Herbert Fryer, a pupil of the legendary Ferruccio Busoni. Bonynge is perhaps best known for his long-standing collaboration with his late wife, the legendary Australian soprano Dame Joan Sutherland. From 1962 until her retirement in 1990, Bonynge conducted virtually all of Sutherland's operatic performances, showcasing his exceptional musicianship and deep understanding of the bel canto repertoire.
