Robert Saxton

Robert Saxton is a distinguished British composer, born in London in 1953, who has spent his career exploring the dynamic relationship between innovative ideas and traditional compositional techniques from the past eight centuries of Western music. Guided early on by esteemed mentors Benjamin Britten and Elisabeth Lutyens, Saxton's musical journey led him to study at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities. His impressive portfolio includes major works for renowned orchestras, choirs, and chamber groups such as the BBC, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the London Sinfonietta. Beyond his compositions, Saxton has also made significant contributions to music education, serving as Professor of Composition at Oxford University and Head of Composition at both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy. Additionally, he is a talented poet, having authored eight books of poetry, including his latest collection, "Flying School." Saxton's diverse and accomplished career continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
