Simon Holt

Simon Holt, born in Bolton, Lancashire in 1958, is a distinguished English composer known for his intricate and rich sound-worlds that demand exceptional commitment from his interpreters. Holt's musical journey began with a deep immersion in organ, piano, and visual art, leading him to study composition with Anthony Gilbert at the Royal Northern College of Music. His early works, such as 'Kites' commissioned by the London Sinfonietta in 1983, quickly established his reputation. Currently, Holt serves as Professor of Composition at the Royal College of Music, continuing to inspire and educate the next generation of composers. Beyond his musical prowess, Holt is also an advocate for disability inclusion, bringing a wealth of knowledge and personal experience as a visually impaired individual.
