Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, born on December 23, 1957, is a pioneering Indian classical musician renowned for his mastery of the santoor, a hammered dulcimer. A disciple of the legendary Ravi Shankar, Bhattacharya has revolutionized the santoor and its playing style, notably introducing the technique of 'meend' or gliding notes at the lower octave in 1980. Hailing from the Maihar Gharana, he has redefined the instrument and its musical possibilities. Bhattacharya's contributions to Indian classical music have earned him the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2018.
