Thomas Simaku, born in Albania and now based in the UK, is a highly acclaimed composer known for his breathtakingly original music. With a career spanning over three decades, Simaku's compositions have captivated audiences across Europe, the USA, and beyond. His journey in music began at the Albanian State Conservatoire in Tirana, where he graduated in 1983, and continued with a PhD in Composition from the University of York, where he studied under the renowned David Blake. Simaku's work has earned him numerous awards, including first prize for his Concerto for Orchestra, which was selected from a pool of 160 anonymous submissions. His extensive body of work includes the ongoing cycle of Soliloquys, which encompasses every instrumental family of the orchestra. As a Reader in Composition at York University, Simaku continues to inspire and influence the next generation of composers, while his own music remains a testament to his unique artistic vision.
