Wolfgang Schneiderhan

Wolfgang Schneiderhan (1915-2002) was an Austrian violin virtuoso whose career spanned nearly three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the classical music scene, particularly in German-speaking countries. Born in Vienna, Schneiderhan was a child prodigy, making his public debut at the age of five after being taught by his mother. His formal training included studies with renowned violinists Otakar Ševčík and Julius Winkler.

Schneiderhan's career was distinguished by his role as concertmaster of both the Vienna Symphony and the Vienna Philharmonic, as well as his prolific recording career with Deutsche Grammophon. His interpretations of Beethoven's works, particularly the Violin Concerto, were celebrated for their purity and control. Beyond his solo performances, Schneiderhan was also a dedicated chamber musician and teacher, contributing significantly to the musical landscape of his time.
