Zubin Mehta

Zubin Mehta, born in Bombay in 1936, is a renowned Indian conductor of Western classical music, celebrated for his extensive repertoire and his ability to conduct entire performances from memory. With nearly half a century in the conducting profession, Mehta is known for his understated yet powerful presence on the podium, avoiding the spotlight in favor of the music. He has held prestigious positions, including music director emeritus of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor emeritus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mehta's journey began under the tutelage of his father, Mehli Mehta, a concert violinist and founder of the Bombay Symphony. His career highlights include co-founding the Bombay Chamber Music Society and lecturing at various institutions. Despite recent health-related cancellations, Mehta's legacy continues to inspire, with memorable performances at venues like the BBC Proms and with orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of India and the Australian World Orchestra.
