Claudio Scimone

Claudio Scimone (1934-2018) was a distinguished Italian conductor and musicologist, celebrated for his profound impact on the revival of Baroque and Renaissance music. Born in Padua, Scimone studied conducting under the renowned Dmitri Mitropoulos and Franco Ferrara. His opera conducting debut at Covent Garden in London with "L'Elisir d'Amore" marked the beginning of an illustrious career that spanned over six decades. Scimone founded the chamber orchestra I Solisti Veneti in 1959, with whom he recorded over 350 albums and performed in more than 6,000 concerts worldwide. His work with I Solisti Veneti brought to light many forgotten Italian masterpieces by composers such as Vivaldi, Rossini, Albinoni, and Tartini. Scimone's meticulous approach to dynamics and articulation, coupled with his deep musical insight, made his performances unforgettable experiences. His legacy as a conductor and musicologist continues to inspire classical music enthusiasts and musicians alike.
