Lars Jansson

Lars Jansson was a multifaceted artist, renowned for his contributions to both the worlds of comics and jazz. Born in Helsinki in 1926, Jansson was the son of sculptor Viktor Jansson and illustrator Signe Hammarsten-Jansson, and the brother of the celebrated author and illustrator Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomin characters. Lars Jansson collaborated with his sister on the Moomin comic strip, taking over the writing and drawing duties from 1960 to 1975, and producing beloved stories that captivated readers worldwide.

Beyond his comic work, Lars Jansson was also a prominent figure in the Swedish jazz scene. As a pianist, he formed the Lars Jansson Trio, one of Sweden's most esteemed jazz groups. His musical influences ranged from Wayne Shorter and Keith Jarrett to Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, reflecting a deep and diverse appreciation for the genre. Jansson's jazz career spanned numerous albums and collaborations, showcasing his talent as both a composer and performer.
